Jalapeno, Blood Orange, and Mint mojito a.k.a “Hot Summer Sunset” Mocktail

Jalapeno, Blood Orange, and Mint mojito a.k.a “Hot Summer Sunset” Mocktail
Jump to Recipe

It is June 7th, my kids just got out of school and all I can think about is enjoying the summer. This is an homage to my sunny SoCal food fusion vibe with a lot of Mexican influence into the food culture. I am obsessed with mint and jalapeno right now. I mean those two have to go together.

This is one of the best drinks I have ever made. I love complexity in mocktails. The most famous mocktails are sweeeet drinks that all you can really detect is sugar. This drink has everything. The blood orange brings a bitter citrus note, the mint brings fresh herbacousness, a bit of jalapeno syrup adds sweet and spiciness. When these flavors are all combined they absolutely dance on your palate. You have to try this drink today!

So here is the recipe without further adoue

Jalapeno, Blood orange, and mint mojito aka Hot Summer Sunset Mocktail

Ingredients

  • 5 Blood oranges 4 for juice, 1 for garnish
  • 1 Jalapeno sliced
  • 1 cup Soda Water divided
  • 1/2 cup sugar for the Jalapeno syrup
  • 1/2 cup water for the Jalapeno syrup
  • 1 cup fresh mint muddled and some for garnish
  • **2 oz rum if you want to make a cocktail instead of a mocktail

Instructions

Jalapeno Syrup

  • Slice jalapenos, do not remove the seeds.
  • Add 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of water and the Jalapeno slices to the pan and turn on to medium heat. Watch, and stir periodically as the sugar dissolves.
  • Turn off heat when mixture begins to boil.
  • Allow Jalapeno mixture to sit. For an hour until cool. Once the mixture is cool, strain into a clean container. It will keep in a refrigerator for up to a week,

Drink

  • Add mint to the bottom of your drinking glass and crush or muddle with a muddler or the handle end of a stirring spoon.
  • Juice 2 blood oranges about 1/2 cup and pour the juice in with the mint.
  • Add 1/2 cup of soda water.
  • Add 1/4 cup of Jalapeno syrup.
  • Add Ice. Stir and enjoy!
