Every summer I’m looking for that next best delicious drink to sip. This summer was no different. As I was looking through my refrigerator I noticed that I had blueberries, lemons, basil and some fresh lavender from my garden on hand. In that moment, I had what can only be called an epiphany. “This would make an amazing mocktail”, I thought to myself. And do you know what? I was right.
I threw some of my rinsed lavender buds into one cup of water one cup of sugar to make a beautiful lavender flavored simple syrup. Then at the bottom of my glasses I muddled a handful blueberries, and basil along with the juice of half a lemon in each serving cups. 1/4 cup of lavender syrup, ice, and some soda water. And I was done. “Sip…siiip….mmmmm, this is GOOD!”
This Blueberry Basil Lemon Lavender Mocktail takes about 10 short minutes, but the complexity of the flavors stays with you. The “herbaceousness” of basil will tickle your taste buds, the tartness of the lemon makes a slight pucker, the fruitiness of the blueberry and floral notes at the lavender balance it all out. With only six ingredients this comes together so quickly, and due to the fact it’s a mocktail even the kids can share it with you. If you’d like to spike this thing up, some gin or vodka would be perfect with this refreshing drink.
